The Architect as Developer Panel Discussion at Harvard https://architectanddeveloper.com/the-architect-as-developer-panel-discussion-at-harvard/ Wed, 19 Nov 2014 03:18:00 +0000 http://architectanddeveloper.com/?p=481 On November 5th the RED Club hosted a panel discussion on the topic of the architect-as-developer practice model. The event brought together three leading professionals in the industry to discuss the reasons each decided to pursue this method of practice, the benefits that it has afforded them, and the myriad issues related to running such integrated practices. Present at the event were Alex Barrett from Barrett Design and Development, Jared Della Valle from Alloy LLC, Cary Tamarkin from Tamarkin Co., and Richard Peiser, the Michael D. Spear Professor of Real Estate Development at the Graduate School of Design, who moderated the night’s discussion. Speaking to a standing-room-only crowd, the panelists briefly introduced their own firm’s work before opening to a student led question-and-answer session. The event generated a fruitful discussion between the professionals and the students about how they were able to pull of their first development deal, how to secure project financing, how to balance design aspirations with fiscal realities, and more.
